My Pen As Persona just finished reading my book and had some memories about growing up as a Jehovah's Witness on her blog over here:

*Ahem!* "Her" blog, not his. :-)
Thanks for the link. I've got some friends that I simply HAVE to send your book to!
Whoops! I thought I read "my wife" and... well, what's a few chromosomes between ex-cult members? :)
Yeah... You did read "my wife." The realization that I would have a wife, rather than a husband was, thankfully, the beginning of the "ex" part in the whole cult membership thing. Who knows how many more years it would have taken for me to wake up if I hadn't come tumbling out of the closet?
Ha! Yes, that would do it, wouldn't it? It was similar for me, I guess, although I just wanted to have ANY kind of sex.
Sexual desires are indeed a powerful wakeup call to those trapped in overly demanding religions.
You know I'm surprised you made it to the age of 17- a lot of the younger people I knew were all married by 12-16- yes I said it- 12! I knew 2 girls who were allowed to marry at the age of 12! GOOD LORD- needless to say that those people are hussies, and not in the JW's anymore! lol Good one witness'- good choice there! Thank you SO much for sending me away so I didn't get married off and really become as fucked up as those other girls! Thank you ~ no REALLY THANK YOU!!!!!
Thanks to Kyria and A Pen As My Persona for sharing your experience. Reading "I'm Perfect You're Doomed" was like reading my childhood, with a few minor adjustments. I actually denied myself as far as marrying and having children and just left 3 years ago. I'm almost 36. I'm forever grateful that something made me wake up and I'm able to raise my kids in the way they deserve - with real love. My oldest just went to his first school dance. To think we had to be "protected" from all the normal facets of growing up. Peace and love to both of you and all of us who have braved shunning and "persecution" to not drink the kool-aid anymore.
